Strong Tipp dairy land guided at up to €8k/ac
One of the first auctions of the year will see an 80ac farm at Rathkenny, Drangan, Co Tipperary come under the gavel on February 16. The holding is for sale at a guide price of €7,000 to €8,000/ac.
Located in the parish of Drangan, 16km north of Clonmel and about 8km from Fethard, the block of farmland is situated in one of the stronger dairying areas of south Tipperary.
John FitzGerald of Dougan FitzGerald describes the ground as good grazing land currently in old pasture with up to 300m of frontage on to a local road.
The land isn’t your typical south Tipperary ground and not suitable for tillage. It is comprised of two parcels, a 30ac piece of very good grazing land and about 50ac that needs attention.
There is an old semi-derelict stone and slate farmhouse with a range of old stone buildings and a haybarn on the property. The holding will be offered at auction in lots consisting of the entire 80ac, or 30ac of land and 50ac with the house.
According to Mr FitzGerald, the place can be naturally divided to suit whatever level of interest comes forward on the day, “On their own, each of the plots could make a manageable buy for local farmers, whereas putting the money together for the entire could be a daunting prospect for someone.”
The auctioneer is hoping that the sale will attract some decent local interest, while he isn’t discounting outside interest.
“Drangan is a highly populated dairy cow location with many efficient herds in the vicinity,” he said.
