Gardai in Limerick have confirmed they are investigating a suspected 'arson' attack on a farm in Limerick in recent days.

The incident took place in the early hours of Friday morning when a fire was reported in Ballyhomin, Askeaton.

Fire services from Limerick tackled the blaze which destroyed a hay shed and approximately 70 bales.

Speaking to FarmIreland, Sergeant John Flanagan described the loss to the farmer as ‘huge’ with the value of the destroyed fodder put at several thousand euro.

Gardai are now appealing to the public for information.

Sergeant Flanagan said as the hay shed was a stand alone building with no power source Gardai are treating the incident as ‘suspicious’ and suspect it could be ‘arson’.

He said Gardai are looking for information from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area on Friday night and are asking members of the public to contact Newcastle West Garda Station on 06920650.
