700 applicants trigger DES jury process

A selection process will be necessary for the August tranche of the Dairy Equipment Scheme (DES) after the Department of Agriculture received more than 700 grant applications.

The amount available per tranche under the DES is €4.925m, but the level of interest for the latest round of the scheme would suggests that up to €8m would be required to satisfy demand.

Applicants for the May 31 tranche had a value in grant terms of €6.1m, but because some of the previous rounds were undersubscribed all eligible applicants received grant aid.

However, this is not going to be possible on this occasion and a selection process will have to be employed to decide which applicants qualify for grants.
