60,000 to head for Tullamore

More than 60,000 are expected to throng the Butterfield Estate for this year's Tullamore Show and AIB National Livestock Show.

The show takes place on Sunday week (August 11), and preparations are now in their final stages.

Close to 250,000 square feet of marquees and pavilions will be erected in the coming days to cater for the 650 trade stands.

Innovation continues to be the hallmark of the show and this year, a new area has been designed for the equestrian events.

Meanwhile, the AIB National Livestock Show will feature Gold Medal Championships for the various breed champions.

FARMERS GET A NITROGEN ALERT

The Department of Agriculture has commenced notifying certain farmers of their interim nitrogen statement covering cattle numbers held on the farm for the first six months of 2013.

This is being done by text message with messages issued to those farmers whose cattle numbers would indicate that they may be approaching or exceeding the limits set down in the Nitrates regulations.
