Farmers have contributed more than €50,000 towards a fund being established to support a possible legal challenge to the review of the Land Parcel Identification System (LPIS) carried out by the Department of Agriculture.
Dermot Kelleher, chairman West Cork ICSA said: "We are now about half way towards our target. We need at least €100,000 as an insurance before taking on the case."
Mr Kelleher said he was confident that the penalties on farmers could be overturned.
"Our legal people believe that we have a very strong case because the way that the farmers in this area have been treated."
