Newcastle owner lands McGreevy for board
Former Fianna Fail finance minister and EU Commissioner Charlie McCreevy has picked up another part-time job that could pay him almost €60,000 per year.
Mr McCreevy has just joined the board of €1.2bn-valued SportsDirect, the shiny-tracksuit company headed up by controversial Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley.
Mr McCreevy was forced to stand down as a director of financial buyout firm NBNK over a potential conflict of interest last year. He is also a non-executive director of Ryanair and joined the board of IFSC bank BNY Mellon last week.
SportsDirect, which owns a chunk of Heatons in Ireland, was investigated by Britain's Serious Fraud Office in 2009 over allegations it was operating a cartel with rival sports retailer JJB. The probe ended last October and no charges were brought against the firm.
