SENIOR executives at the Dublin Docklands Development Authority have been grilled by the Dail’s spending watchdog over thousands spent in Lillie’s Bordello and Town Bar and Grill.
The level of expenses charged to DDDA credit cards was queried by Fine Gael TD Eoghan Murphy at the Public Accounts Committee.
It was previously reported that a credit card in the name of former chief executive Paul Maloney was used to pay for over €28,000 in flights, €19,500 on foreign hotels, €6,300 on domestic hotels, €7,600 on foreign restaurants and €13,500 on restaurants in Ireland from July 2005 to August 2009.
Mr Murphy said that the credit card bills racked up by Paul Moloney and staff for expenses was remarkable.
“If you go down through the detail of the credit card statements what you see is a lot of travel, a lot of hotel expenses.
“But you also see food being expensed as well as entertainment and things like that. |For example, you can see |significant amounts being spent in places like Lillie’s Bordello and the Town Bar and Grill for their Christmas parties: |that was around €3,600 in |total – that was in 2005,” he said.
Some previously unreleased material made available yesterday included details of trips by board members between 1999 and 2001. These included a research visit to Boston in 2001 for eight board members and six executives cost €95,466.
In total, five credit cards used by executives at the DDDA between August 2004 and October 2009 racked up costs of €518,000.
