Joint agents Savills Cork and Ger Carmody Auctioneers Tralee have been appointed as selling agents on behalf of receiver Aiden Murphy of Crowe Horwath.

The hotel, formerly known as the Abbey Gate, is located on Maine Street in Tralee Town Centre.

The property closed for business in early 2014, but is understood to require minimal investment to reopen.

Maine Street is close to The Mall and Denny Street, the core retail and office areas within Tralee town centre. Nearby retailers include Penney's and Dunnes Stores located on The Mall.

Built in 1994, the Central Hotel is a Failte Ireland registered three-star hotel with 100 bedrooms. It is laid out over three floors and has around 40 off-street car parking spaces on either side of Maine Street.

The hotel boasts two bars and a restaurant at ground floor level which was redecorated in recent years. There are two meeting rooms and a main function room capable of accommodating 260 people. The function room is at ground floor level, has a large bar and excellent natural daylight.

Savills' Denis O'Donoghue commented: "This is a good quality hotel asset and represents a unique opportunity to acquire a hotel business requiring minimal start-up costs in an excellent business and leisure location". Tralee is the largest town in County Kerry and has a population of approximately 21,000 people. It has a thriving local economy with major employers including Kerry County Council and Kerry Group, along with tourist attractions such as the Aqua Dome, Wetlands Centre, Banna Strand and the Arnold Palmer designed Tralee Golf Club.

Tralee is recognised internationally for its annual Rose of Tralee festival which is a significant draw to the town. Tralee has a mainline train station connecting to the Cork/Dublin line and is located approximately 20km from Kerry International Airport.

The town is within easy access of other main cities: 120kms to Cork, 100kms to Limerick and 115kms to Shannon.
