Stella Mount Merrion plans on hold for now

Plans by Chris and Niall Power Smith to develop 48 apartments on the site of the former Stella cinema in Mount Merrion, south county Dublin, have been put on hold for the foreseeable future.
Furniture retailer Flanagan Kerins has announced that it has signed a short-term lease with the developers to open its second store at the landmark building, pending the commencement of works there. While the value of the deal has not been disclosed, the new store is due to open on October 1.
Flanagan Kerins' opening of an outlet in Mount Merrion is especially poignant for Peter Flanagan given his family's previous and longstanding association with the Stella building. Following the closure of the former cinema in 1976, the Flanagans took over the premises, establishing it as the furniture store of choice for Dublin's affluent homeowners. Flanagans traded for 35 years before going into receivership in 2012. Peter Flanagan later partnered with Damien Kerins and opened Flanagan Kerins' first store in Bray, Co Wicklow.
