One of the country’s best known five-star hotels has been sold.
The award-winning Aghadoe Heights Hotel and Spa has been sold in a private deal to an un-named European investor.
A spokesperson for the Co Kerry hotel said the deal will make no difference to the levels of management and staff at the hotel.
It’s understood the investor has significant interests in a number of well-known hotels around the world.
The decision to sell the hotel came after a number of unsolicited approaches were made to the O’Reilly family from interested parties both at home and abroad.
The market for profitable hotel assets is buoyant and the situation represented a golden opportunity for the former owners of Aghadoe Heights.
Hotel Director Jerry O’Reilly is sure the move is a positive one for the hotel.
“We have very much enjoyed our association with the Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa and are very proud of the achievements of the hotel & the staff.
“Since we bought it in 1998, the commitment of the Management and Staff and the support of the people of Kerry and beyond have been tremendous. I am sure that the new owner will continue to support this great team to continue to deliver exceptional customer experiences,” Mr O’Reilly said.
Since it was bought in 1998, Mr O’Reilly has overseen significant redevelopment with 20 rooms, 20 suites, a penthouse suit and a spa added.
During the last 13 years, the hotel has established itself as one of the country’s leading five-star hotel resorts, developing an impressive international reputation along the way for its luxurious accommodation, food, service and friendliness.
Lead by General Managers Pat and Marie Chawke since 2000, the hotel employees have won many plaudits including numerous ‘Hotel of the Year’ awards (the Automobile Association, Georgina Campbell, The Irish Golf Tour Operators Association, Best Customer Service and many ‘Hotel Spa of the Year’ awards (International Beauty Press Association, Irish Tatler, etc.)
“The Hotel is being sold as a “going concern” and the Management and Staff will ensure that it is “Business as usual” for our customers and suppliers,” Pat Chawke said.
“We would all like to thank the O’Reilly family for their support and commitment for the past 14 years and recognise their significant contribution to the collaborative tapestry that is the Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa.
“ The new owner has a tremendous insight into the international luxury travel market and we look forward to a new chapter, a bright future and introducing many more customers to the Aghadoe experience.”
