Online auction to aid transport industry
A new form of online auction has been established especially for the transport industry. On the new website, MoveMarket.ie, a business which wants to move shop or office, or residents who want to move house can entice transport providers to bid for the removal business in a reverse auction platform.
Founder Tadhg Hickey explains: "A haulage company can often find that after making a delivery their return trip is empty or has spare capacity. This service helps transporters fill their trucks to optimise their fleet capacity.''
Up to 22pc of vehicles owned by haulage companies, were empty at any one time during 2008 when more than 20 million journeys were made according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO)
Movemarket.ie offers its services free to customers while transport providers only pay a fee on jobs they win.
