Mixed fortunes for pub site proposals
Two Dublin northside pub redevelopment projects have received contrasting planning decisions. Dublin City Council has given the green light for the redevelopment of The Finglas Inn, in Dublin 11, which will mean the addition of 20 apartments and nine duplex homes.
However, the council refused a redevelopment on the site of the Swiss Cottage pub at Santry, Dublin 9.
Tykillan Valley Ltd, whose directors are Frank Gleeson and Ciara Fox, intend to demolish the existing Finglas Inn on Barry Road, Dublin 11, and build a new pub with the apartments and duplexes located in four storeys overhead. They intend to retain the existing eight shops on the site.
The Swiss Cottage development would have been much bigger. The developers, Swiss Partnership and Kevin Fitzsimons, intended to build 94 apartments and seven commercial units including a new pub, a creche, a takeaway, a bookies and off-licence on the site which also currently accommodates an industrial unit and a house.
Both developments are located within a convenient distance of Dublin Airport, the M1 and M50 motorways, while the Swiss Cottage apartments would also have had the benefit of a concierge service and 153 parking spaces.
