The continuing success of Mullingar's Harbour Place Shopping Centre is set to be enhanced further by the imminent arrival to the scheme of the hugely-popular fashion and gift wear specialists, Carraig Donn.

The Mayo-based retailer has just signed a 10-year lease with letting agents CBRE on a 213 sq m (2,300 sq ft) unit at the centre with a view to opening for business there in early December.

Commenting on the agreement with Carraig Donn, CBRE Senior Director of Retail Bernadine Hogan said: "It falls in line with our strategy to obtain good quality offerings for Harbour Place. We look forward to confirming further new store openings within the scheme in the near future".

Carraig Donn managing director, Pat Hughes, said: "Trading at Carraig Donn has gone from strength to strength in recent times, and this latest store opening forms part of a nationwide investment of €1m in new and refurbished stores. We're excited to open our Mullingar outlet just in time for the busy Christmas period."

Harbour Place Shopping Centre occupies a key location in the largest urban centre in county Westmeath. Major employers in Mullingar include Capmark, FBD Insurance, Trend Technologies and Lidl Distribution Centre.

While Westmeath has a relatively high retail density, that measurement doesn't take into account its drive-time catchment, which sees it attract shoppers from its neighbouring counties. The Harbour Place Shopping Centre's catchment population is estimated to be in the region of 54,500, with visitors from Mullingar, Longford, Tullamore, Edenderry, Trim and Kells.

The scheme is anchored by Dunnes Stores and is home to a mix of tenants including Boots, Peter Mark, Holland & Barrett and Carphone Warehouse. Remaining units are available for immediate occupation and range in size from 52 sq m (562 sq ft) to 59 sq m (630 sq ft), and are suitable for a variety of uses, subject to planning permission where applicable.
