Anne: My father is a 91-year old widowed pensioner living alone. He receives €236 per week from the state contributory old-age pension and another €212 per week of a pension from Dublin City Council. How will he be affected by the budget changes?
The contributory old-age pension paid to Anne’s father remains unchanged after the budget. The contributory old-age is also exempt from the new universal social charge. However, he will have to pay the universal social charge of approximately €240 on his Dublin City Council pension.
