Eugene McCann has been letting property in Dublin and Longford for the past 40 years, but says the Government need to do more to entice landlords into the market.

Eugene says all the private landlords he knows are in aged between 55 and 70, adding that he understands why they would be reluctant to let out property.

He also says that a private landlord can expect to take home just 15pc of the money they get from rent, once taxes and other charges are paid.

Eugene adds that he can't get tax relief on upgrading his properties.

Eugene says his own family have no interest in following him into the market given the conditions at the moment.
