RTE's new chief accepts pay cap
THE new RTE boss has confirmed he will comply with the new salary cap in the public sector.
Noel Curran, who will take up the position of director general next February, will receive a basic salary of €250,000 -- €11,000 less than his predecessor.
In Tuesday's Budget, Brian Lenihan announced he was introducing a €250,000 cap on all public-sector salaries.
A statement from RTE last night confirmed Mr Curran would receive less than the current director general, Cathal Goan.
"Noel Curran has confirmed his intention to comply with the €250,000 salary ceiling proposed by the Government in respect of public bodies," it read.
"The salary of the director general currently is €261,000, voluntarily reduced from a contractual entitlement of €297,973."
