HEALTH Minister Leo Varadkar plans to introduce free GP care for all children under 12 by the end of next year.
Mr Varadkar was given additional funding in today’s budget to expand the scheme next year.
The additional free GP care will be after September next year for all children under 12 subject to agreement with the Irish Medical Organisation. (IMO)
Department of Health source last weekend believed they would not be able to extend to scheme over fears of clashing with doctors after drawn out negotiations on introducing free GP care for under sixes.
“We got a bit more extra money on Monday. Still very tight for next year,” a senior Government source said.
