Branson lights up the RDS
It was all razzmatazz at the RDS in Dublin yesterday as Virgin boss Richard Branson jetted in for the rebranding of UPC as Virgin Media.
He'd been out the night before partying with Bono and the likes (as you do when you pop over to Dublin for a visit), so we could all forgive him if he felt a little frayed around the edges.
It was all short and sweet, but Branson was his genial self and readily answered questions on just about any topic.
And he also gave time yesterday afternoon to a Business Brainstorm - a more than hour-long session where he met Irish high-tech start-ups and took part in a questions and answers session. That has got to be worth an awful lot to those just starting off.
UPC Ireland chief executive Magnus Ternsjo was in fine fettle, as you'd expect when you're sharing a stage with Branson. There was much jocularity and flashing lights. Ternsjo used a line from that song in the Willie Wonka movie: 'Come with me, and you'll be, in a world of pure imagination."
Er, wasn't that used in a high-profile Sky TV advert a few years back? Oh well, the event went off like a PR dream no doubt. The Punt doesn't know how Branson remembers what country he's even in.
