Big hopes for mini HTC 'One'

Big phones aren't for everyone. At least, that's what HTC has acknowledged with the launch of its HTC One Mini, a smaller version of its critically acclaimed flagship HTC One smartphone.

It's not that much smaller, though. The new handset has a 4.3-inch screen, moderately smaller than the 4.7-inch display of its bigger brother and a little larger than the screen of an iPhone 5.

There are some corners cut, too, in a bid to make the phone cheaper ("more affordable") to a wider market. Chief among these is a diminution of the phone's engine power. So instead of a beefy 1.7Ghz quad-core chip, there's a modest 1.4Ghz dual-core processor on board.

However, the handset keeps lots of the good bits of the One device, including the excellent 'ultrapixel' camera.

The phone is set to be released in Ireland in September. It will be available from free with contract on some Irish operators or around €400 sim-free.
