IT’S the biggest legal battle ever taken on by the State — Anglo Irish Bank’s court lawsuit against Sean Quinn (above) and his family over close to €2.8bn in loans.

Anglo is seeking costs for discovery from the Quinn family in a move which could cost it hundreds of thousands of euro. Justice Peter Kelly described the move as “fairly unusual” given that the Quinns are resident in the State.

Relations between Quinn and Anglo deteriorated further after a Quinn family Russian adviser wrote to the Irish ambassador in Moscow, seeking clarification over alleged contacts between the embassy and Russia’s Foreign Ministry.
