A third of Irish consumers do their 'weekly shop' in Tesco
A third of Irish consumers do their main weekly shop at Tesco, according to a new report from Checkout Magazine and Ignite Research.
Some of the reasons shoppers gave for choosing Tesco as their main shopping destination included the wide range of goods, convenient location and strong customer loyalty programme.
The Where We Shop report, which measured the shopping habits of 1,000 consumers, also reveals that 23pc do their main shop at Aldi, followed by 16pc at 'Lidl, 15pc at Dunnes Stores, and 11pc at SuperValu.
Value for money was the main reason given by those who choose Aldi and Lidl, with 86pc of Aldi shoppers and 81pc of Lidl shoppers saying their respective stores are the cheapest.
The editor of Checkout magazine Stephen Wynne-Jones said: "This year's Where We Shop report indicates that when it comes to our shopping habits, Irish consumers really are creatures of habit."
He added: "While value for money is still a key decision driver for most households, the most successful stores marry this with range, location, access, friendly staff and quality produce - factors that can have a huge influence on where consumers decide to shop."
