The Fire Department of New York said seven people were hurt, three of them seriously, when a crane collapsed at a construction site in the city's Queens borough.
The fire department got the call shortly before 2.30pm on Wednesday in the Long Island City neighbourhood.
The crane was visible along the East River behind a big neon Pepsi Cola sign, a local landmark.
The three people who were seriously injured are in stable condition.
