French transport workers strike over pension reforms
The French bus and rail system is suffering major disruption today due to a strike by transport workers protesting against Presdient Nicolas Sarkozy's planned pension reforms.
SNCF employees began an indefinite strike last night, while Paris transport workers joined the demonstration this morning.
The stoppage has affected trains, subways, buses and trams, forcing many commuters to find their own way to work.
Gas and electricity workers have also gone on strike to protest against the pension reforms, which are aimed at cutting costs and making France more competitive.
