EC announces ?600m aid package for fishermen
The European Commission has announced plans to give ?600m worth of aid to fishermen to help them deal with rising fuel costs.
The commission says the funds are part of a package of emergency measures to encourage restructuring of fishing fleets hit hardest by the fuel crisis.
The package will raise the amount of public aid allowed in the sector from ?30,000 per operation over three years to ?100,000.
