Imran Khan arrested at demonstration in Pakistan
Pakistani police have arrested Imran Khan today as part of President Pervez Musharraf's continued crackdown on political dissent.
The former cricketer turned political activist was detained in the eastern city of Lahore when he showed up a student demonstration against the emergency rule imposed by Mr Musharraf earlier this month.
Khan had been in hiding since the emergency declaration, which has led to thousands of opposition activists being arrested by the police.
Yesterday, Benazir Bhutto was placed under house arrest again as part of moves to prevent her from holding a rally against the state of emergency.
She later demanded Mr Musharraf's resignation, dashing US hopes that the two might form an alliance against Islamic militants.
