Around 50 killed in suicide bombing in Pakistan

Friday December 21 2007

Around 50 people are believed to have been killed in a suicide bombing near a mosque in Pakistan today.

The blast near the city of Peshawar apparently targeted former Interior Minister Aftab Khan Sherapo, who was among the worshippers.

He was also targeted in another suicide attack eight months ago.

Election-related violence is common in Pakistan, but suspicion over the bombing is likely to focus on pro-Taliban militants active in the north-west of the country.
