Given to link up with rest of Irish squad today

Thursday November 15 2007

Shay Given is set to link up with the rest of the Republic of Ireland squad today ahead of Saturday's Euro 2008 qualifier against Wales.

The Newcastle goalkeeper has been training with his club over the past few days as he continues to recover from injury.

He is optimistic about playing in Cardiff this Saturday.

Meanwhile, caretaker manager Don Givens will decide today whether to make any last-minute call-ups to his depleted squad.

Jonathan Douglas became the latest player to withdraw due to injury yesterday.

Irish officials hope Stephen Hunt and Paul McShane will train fully today after sitting out yesterday's session.
