Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor believes the arrival of his boyhood hero Louis Saha could give the club the boost they need to stay in the Barclays Premier League title race.

Many Spurs fans were left underwhelmed when manager Harry Redknapp signed 33-year-old Saha on deadline day but the former Manchester United and Fulham forward wasted little time in allaying those doubts last weekend, scoring twice on his full debut to help the Londoners stroll to a 5-0 win over his former club Newcastle.

Adebayor knows Saha well from their time at Metz together, and the Togo striker said: "I have immediate respect for Louis. I know him from when I was at Metz, he was the senior player, I was the youth player and I used to look up to him. Now to have the chance to play alongside him, it was a pleasure."

He added: "I'm happy for him. It was his first game at home and he scored two goals. Hopefully he will be the striker that we need who can give us a push until the end of the season.

"At the moment we are third and we have to keep going, keep fighting and see how far we can go."
