Rory McIlroy has consolidated his position as world number one

Rory McIlroy's second successive victory in the FedEx Cup play-offs - and third win in four starts in America - has increased his dominance at the top of the world rankings.

But the 23-year-old Northern Irishman now has Tiger Woods as his closest challenger for the first time. By finishing third and fourth the past two weeks Woods has moved ahead of Luke Donald.

Swede Peter Hanson, meanwhile, is up to 23rd after his win at the KLM Open in the Netherlands.
