Mayo kick-off campaign with comfortable win

Sunday February 07 2010

Mayo launched their NFL campaign with a 2-14 to 1-10 win over Connacht neighbours Galway.

Mayo opened out an eight-point lead through Andy Moran, Mark Ronaldson and Kevin McLaughlin, before Galway rallied in the latter stages of the first half with scores from Nicky Joyce and Sean Armstrong.

Mayo led by 0-11 to 0-5 at half-time, and hit two goals in as many minutes early in the second half, through Enda Varley and Trevor Mortimer.

Despite Mortimer's dismissal, and a 1-3 salvo from Galway substitute Michael Meehan, John O'Mahony's men won comfortably.
