Evans appointed Roscommon boss

John Evans has been appointed the new manager of the Roscommon senior football team.

He succeeds Des Newtown, who stepped down after just one season in charge.

Former Tipperary boss and Kerry native Evans was ratified at a specially convened meeting of the Roscommon county board on Thursday evening.

He stood down from his post in Tipperary post last March following a poor run of results, but soon afterwards joined Seamus McEnaney's backroom team in Meath.
