Decision due today on Olympic women's boxing

Thursday August 13 2009

A decision is expected to be made today on whether women's boxing will be included in the 2012 Olympics in London.

The sport came close to inclusion in the 2008 Games, but the move was blocked by the International Olympic Committee.

There were fears that the sport was not competitive in enough countries, which could lead to potentially dangerous mismatches.

It remains unclear if the IOC will change its stance when it issues a recommendation on the matter today.

Ireland's Katie Taylor is currently world champion in the 60kg weight class and has spoken of her desire to represent her country at the Olympics.
