Bolton boss Owen Coyle expects Gary Cahill's transfer to Chelsea to finally be completed either later on Monday or on Tuesday morning.

Coyle revealed more than a fortnight ago that a fee - believed to be around £7million - for the England defender had been agreed between the two clubs, but there has still not been any official announcement to confirm the deal is done.

Cahill had his medical at Chelsea before watching their 1-0 win over Sunderland from the stands at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and asked this morning for an update on the situation, Coyle said: "My understanding is that everything is agreed."

He added: "The clubs agreed (a fee) a number of weeks ago, the player, his representative and Chelsea have agreed, and I think he sailed through the medical as we all would expect.

"For me, between today and tomorrow morning, it is just a matter of the contracts being exchanged between the relevant parties to conclude the deal. As far as I am concerned, Gary is joining Chelsea."

With Cahill departing, Coyle has been looking to bolster his defence and is optimistic it will not be long before the signing of New York Red Bulls' United States international Tim Ream is sealed.

"He is a player that we would love to bring to the football club and hopefully in the next few days that can come to fruition," Coyle said.

Meanwhile, the Scot has played down talk that he looking to make a move for Tottenham forward Giovani Dos Santos.

"We haven't been speaking to the lad," Coyle said. "There are fantastic young players out there in the Premier League and he is certainly one of them, but it is just speculation.

"There is no doubt that he is a top player, but there are many top players out there."
