Cape Blanco put up a supreme front-running performance to land the Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.

With Johnny Murtagh on Ballydoyle first string Rip Van Winkle, Seamie Heffernan stretched them out on the Irish Derby winner and held a clear advantage turning for home.

The 6-1 shot had his top-class rivals in serious trouble coming down the straight and nothing got near him as he scored by five and a half lengths, with Rip Van Winkle just grabbing second spot close home.

Will.i.am carries Olympic torch

The Voice judge Will.i.am carried the Olympic Torch today.The Black Eyed Peas star was cheered on by thousands of people as he ran through Taunton carrying the flame.The US-born music producer was a surprise addition to the line-up on day three of the relay.Will.i.am, 37, looked at ease in the warm weather as he jogged through the Somerset town centre.The Metropolitan Police Torch Security Team, which runs alongside the torchbearer, kept a watchful eye on the cheering crowd.

Lockerbie bomber buried

Scotland's Justice Secretary has defended his decision to release the Lockerbie bomber almost three years ago as the only man convicted of the tragedy is buried in Libya today.Kenny MacAskill said he had made the "right decision for the right reasons" as he gave his reaction to the death of Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi.Former Libyan intelligence officer Megrahi was sentenced to life in prison for the 1988 bombing of a US airliner over the Dumfries and Galloway town which claimed 270 lives.
