Cech wants end to Clattenburg case

Petr Cech is keen to move on from the Mark Clattenburg controversy

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech is hoping for a swift conclusion to the complaint launched by his club against referee Mark Clattenburg, accusing the official of making "inappropriate comments" interpreted as being racist in nature towards John Obi Mikel.

The complaints stemmed from Chelsea's 3-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester United on October 28. Clattenburg has denied making inappropriate remarks. The Metropolitan Police closed their investigation into the matter on Tuesday, while the Football Association says it will complete its own probe by Friday.

By then it will be almost three weeks since the match was played, and Cech is eager to move on. "If there was a case it is not because Chelsea want to do something, it is just because there is a case and again, I hope that this story will be finished as soon as possible," he told CNN.

Whatever the outcome of this particular case, the Chelsea stopper wants to see better communication between players, referees and fans in the future to reduce the number of disputes.

"I think there should be better communication from the side of the referee towards the public as well," he added.

"I think it would help. You have so many projects of respects for the referees and I think that would help as well.

"They are more open because like I said, the players come and say fair enough I made mistake, it was completely wrong, I shouldn't have dived, I shouldn't have done this, and you get the credit for that.

"And I think you'll get respect from the people and I think this is what can sometimes happen with the referees.

"Their job is very hard anyway and we all know that but I think the communication could be better."
