Second Polish man dies after Dublin screwdriver attack

Thursday February 28 2008

The second victim of last weekend's horrific screwdriver attack in Dublin has died from his injuries in hospital overnight.

Polish national Pavel Kalita had been in a critical condition since being stabbed in the neck during the incident in Drimnagh on Saturday evening.

His friend, Marius Szwajkos, died in hospital on Monday from a screwdriver wound to his head.

The stabbing is believed to have happened after the pair got into a minor altercation with a group of local youths.

Gardai are currently holding a man in his late teens in connection with the deaths.

A 19-year-old and a 15-year-old were also arrested earlier this week, but have since been released pending instructions from the DPP.
