Govt urged to take responsibility for FAS scandal

Wednesday November 26 2008

The Government is coming under pressure to take responsibility for the scandal over taxpayer-funded expenses that has led to the resignation of the FAS director general.

Rody Molloy stood down last night after revelations that he and fellow FAS executives have spent hundreds of thousands of euros on trips to the US which included first-class travel and expensive rounds of golf.

Labour Party leader Eamon Gilmore told the Dail this morning that the last three Ministers for Enterprise must take responsibility for the situation.

He said legislation passed 21 years ago obliges the minister to oversee expenses at the state training agency.
