Gormley says voters feel conned by politicians
Friday November 14 2008
Green Party leader John Gormley has said he believes many voters feel they were conned by politicians at the last general election.
Mr Gormley was speaking in Dublin today in response to the latest opinion poll showing a collapse in support for the Government, the Taoiseach and Fianna Fail.
He said he believed the figures may be explained by a feeling that politicians misled voters about the state of the economy in the run-up to last year's election.
Education Minister Batt O'Keefe, meanwhile, told reporters today that the Government had to make tough budget decisions and would stand firm on them regardless of the poll.
Elsewhere, Fine Gael TD Brian Hayes said this morning that the figures were a sign of "extraordinarily weak leadership in the Taoiseach".
