DUP seeks McAleese apology over Queen comments
Unionists are demanding that President Mary McAleese apologise for comments she made yesterday about a possible visit by Queen Elizabeth to the Republic.
Mrs McAleese said such a visit would only happen after policing and justice powers at devolved to the power-sharing Executive in Stormont.
The DUP is currently resisting the move and has accused the Irish President of inappropriately playing politics.
Mrs McAleese's spokesperson has already said, however, that she was merely reflecting Irish Government policy, as she is obliged to do.
Meanwhile, a major security operation is underway in Armagh today as the Queen visits the city to distribute so-called Maundy money as part of an Easter tradition.
The British Army has carried out controlled explosions on two suspect devices they say were hoaxes.
