Budget 2009 brought forward to October 14th
Wednesday September 03 2008
The Government has decided to bring the Budget forward to next month in response to current economic difficulties.
It was announced this afternoon that Finance Minister Brian Lenihan will reveal Budget 2009 on the 14th of October.
The news followed a cabinet meeting earlier today, which was the first since the summer break.
The latest exchequer figures, published yesterday, show a deficit of €8.4 billion for the year so far.
In a statement, Minister Lenihan said the public finances were under considerable pressure.
The Budget normally takes place in December.
