O'Keeffe to face more teacher anger at TUI conference
The Minister for Education is expected to face another angry reception when he attends the annual conference of the Teachers Union of Ireland today.
Batt O'Keeffe was greeted by walk-outs and silent protests when he addressed the INTO and ASTI conferences yesterday.
The teachers' unions are angry about the pension levy being imposed on all public servants, as well as cutbacks that they say will harm the most vulnerable pupils in Irish schools.
The TUI wants the cuts to be reversed, but the minister has insisted that the Government has no option given the perilous state of the public finances.
