Nigerian woman seeks to extend deportation freeze

The Nigerian woman who is trying to stop her and her two young daughters' deportation back to their native country is in the High Court trying to extend a freeze on the order against them pending the outcome of a similar case in the Supreme Court and her further challenge in the High Court.
Pamela Izevbehai and her daughters Naomi (7) and Jemima (5) were earlier this year given leave to challenge a decision by the minister not to use his discretion to grant a subsidiary protection order which would allow them to remain here.
She has always claimed that, if her daughters are forced to return, they would almost certainly face female genital mutilation, from which her eldest daughter died in 1994.
The State is opposing any injunction which would further freeze the order, saying the Refugee Commission and the Appeals Tribunal has already concluded that this claim is not a well-founded one.
