Gardai found a cannabis farm in Co Wicklow
A sophisticated cannabis farm has been uncovered by gardai in Co Wicklow.
A man in his 30s is being questioned over the crop, which had an estimated street value of 400,000 euro.
Gardai said the raid on an industrial unit near Delgany in Bray on Wednesday afternoon was part of an ongoing investigation.
"During the search a substantial cannabis cultivation operation was discovered," said a Garda spokesman.
"Approximately 1,000 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of up to 400,000 euro (subject to analysis) were seized."
The suspect is being detained at Bray Garda Station.
Scientists warned this week that herbal cannabis cultivated in growing houses across Ireland is more likely to cause psychosis and mental health problems than imported herb and resin.
Forensic tests showed skunk or weed produced from cannabis factories have higher levels of the psychoactive component tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
The National Advisory Committee on Drugs said the home-grown drug also has low levels of the substance cannabidiol, which counteracts the effects of THC.
