Iraq tense on Saddam execution anniversary
Sunday December 30 2007
Iraq is on alert today on the first anniversary of the execution of Saddam Hussein.
Supporters of the former President are expected to gather at his power base in Tikrit.
On this day last year Saddam was hanged after being convicted of the killings of nearly 150 Shia Muslims in the 1980s.
Scenes from the execution were captured on mobiles and sent around the world, prompting criticism of the way the death sentence was carried out.
