Investigator seeks information about Stardust disaster

Thursday November 15 2007

Anyone who may have information about the 1981 Stardust disaster is being asked to submit it to an independent investigator examining whether a new public inquiry is warranted.

Advertisements have been placed in today's newspapers urging people to come forward with information to the investigation being led by barrister John Gallagher.

Mr Gallagher was appointed by the Government to examine if a case exists for a new inquiry into the nightclub fire that killed 48 people on St Valentine's Day in 1981.

The families of the victims have commissioned an independent forensic report that they say proves the blaze started in the roof space of the club and could have been prevented.

The initial inquiry found that the fire was started deliberately in a ground-floor alcove.

Billion bucks for Facebook founder

With the initial offer price of $38, Facebook's shares were already set at the high end of a range the company set earlier in the week and values the company at $104bn. The price makes Facebook more valuable than Amazon, which also trades on the Nasdaq. Early trading was delayed until 11.30amn by the volume of shares being bought and sold. More than 82m shares were traded in the first 30 seconds.
