Galway body believed to be missing Tipperary woman

Thursday August 16 2007

The woman whose body was retrieved from the water near the new Oranmore Garda station this afternoon has not yet been formally identified.

However it's thought that it may be that of missing Tipperary native Bridget Hickey.

The woman's body was spotted in the water at around 2.30pm and the Gardaí and Lifeboat were alerted.

Gardai have not confirmed if the woman's body is that of 26-year-old Ms Hickey.

Ms Hickey, who worked in Galway, was last seen near the Róisín Dubh on Dominick Street in the early hours of Tuesday Aug 7th.

Since then a massive search involving the Garda Sub Aqua team, family and friends has been ongoing.
