Fishermen end blockades pending talks with Govt

Protesting fishermen have removed their blockades of ports around the country pending the outcome of talks with the Government later this week.
The fishermen had been blocking ports in Cork, Waterford and Galway as part of a campaign to highlight a number of issues they say are threatening their livelihoods.
They were also threatening action at Dublin Port this morning.
However, they have decided to halt the blockades following an agreement by Fisheries Minister Brendan Smith to meet the Federation of Irish Fishermen on Friday.
The fishermen, who have been acting without the approval of the federation, say they will mount a full-scale protest on Monday if they are not satisfied with the outcome of the talks.
This week's blockades were mounted to highlight rising fuel costs, competition from cheap imports and the effect of EU quotas.
