Ex-barracks to be Valentine venue
Romance could be in the air at the Ebrington former Army barracks
A former army barracks in Londonderry is to be transformed into a Valentine's night party venue.
A love chapel, live music and theatre are on the menu at Ebrington within a five-acre main square. Art, light shows and a costume photo booth are among other attractions.
A spokeswoman for the venture said: "We have taken this former parade ground and turned it into a public square. We have built a public space which is designated to be as multi-functional as possible.
"It will be a key venue in the lead up to 2013 (the city of culture year)."
The square is larger than Trafalgar Square in London and Donegall Square in Belfast.
The spokeswoman added: "It will be the largest public space in the city, linked to the cityside. It is designed to allow concerts and large-scale performances."
On June 21 this year the area will host the cultural Olympiad, linked to the Olympics in London, when actor Jude Law will be among stars present.
The love chapel on February 17 is meant to symbolise the transformation of the city.
There are several cream buildings dating back from the 1800s and a light show will be projected onto them several times throughout the evening.
The organisers have capacity for up to 15,000 people at the square.
