Contract awarded for Dublin ticketing system

The contract to provide an integrated ticketing system for public transport in Dublin has been awarded to IBM Ireland.

The new system, which is based on one already operating in Singapore, is due to be introduced in late 2009.

It will provide a pay-as-you-go system on smart cards, as well as weekly, monthly and annual tickets for regular commuters on Luas, Dublin Bus, Irish Rail and Bus Eireann.
