Bank of Ireland has announced details of a ?1bn fund to provide mortgages to first-time home-buyers.

The fund has the potential to help around 4,000 prospective home-owners.

AIB is also set to announce a similar initiative later today.

The two banks are required to increase lending capacity for first-time buyers by 30% as part of the ?7bn recapitalisation plan announced by the Government last week.

The increased lending is designed to boost the ailing property market.
